3-Day Tanzania Safari from Zanzibar: Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater & Lake Manyara

This 3-day Tanzania safari is designed for travelers staying in Zanzibar. It offers three of the Northern Circuit’s key wildlife destinations in a short, well-planned trip. You will fly from Zanzibar to Arusha. From there, start your adventure with a full game drive in Tarangire National Park, famous for giant baobab trees and large elephant herds. On the second day, explore the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, known for its scenery and dense wildlife. You will enjoy another overnight stay in a comfortable lodge before continuing to Lake Manyara National Park on the final day. Lake Manyara offers a unique safari experience. See its groundwater forest, alkaline lake, dramatic Rift Valley escarpment, and varied wildlife—including elephants, hippos, baboons, flamingos, and tree-climbing lions. After your game drive in Lake Manyara, you will return to Arusha Airport for your evening flight back to Zanzibar. This itinerary is ideal for travelers who want a short but rewarding safari with diverse landscapes, strong wildlife viewing, and smooth logistics from start to finish.
Safari Highlight
Day 1: Zanzibar – Arusha – Tarangire National Park
Your safari begins with a morning pickup from your hotel in Zanzibar and a transfer to the airport for your 7:00 a.m. flight to Arusha, which takes around one hour. Upon arrival at Arusha Airport at approximately 9:00–9:30 a.m., you will be welcomed by your professional safari guide and escorted to your private 4×4 safari vehicle. From here, you will drive directly to Tarangire National Park, one of Tanzania’s most rewarding parks, known for its ancient baobab trees, open savannah, and impressive elephant population. After entering the park, you will enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic location, followed by an afternoon game drive in search of wildlife such as elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, wildebeest, and a wide variety of birdlife. In the early evening, you will leave the park and transfer to Moonbow Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater
After an early breakfast, you will depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with the drive taking approximately 2.5 hours depending on road conditions. Upon arrival at the crater rim, you will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and one of Africa’s most extraordinary safari destinations. The crater floor supports an exceptional concentration of wildlife, giving you an excellent chance to spot lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, hippos, and many bird species, with the possibility of seeing rhinos as well. You will enjoy a picnic lunch near the hippo pool and continue with a game drive across the crater floor while taking in the spectacular scenery. In the afternoon, you will ascend back to the rim and drive to Moonbow lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park – Arusha – Zanzibar
After breakfast, you will depart for Lake Manyara National Park for your final day of safari. Though smaller than Tarangire and Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara offers a very different and memorable setting, with lush groundwater forest, acacia woodland, open grasslands, hot springs, and the beautiful alkaline lake stretching along the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. The park is famous for its large troops of baboons, elephant sightings, hippos, flamingos during the right season, and its elusive tree-climbing lions. You will enjoy a game drive through this scenic park while looking out for giraffes, zebras, buffalo, monkeys, and diverse birdlife. After a picnic lunch and final wildlife viewing, you will drive back to Arusha Airport in time for your evening flight to Zanzibar. On arrival in Zanzibar, you will be met and transferred back to your accommodation.
